Sri  Vara Mahalakshmi Vratam  Significance & Story:

Goddess Sri Vara Lakshmi is worshipped on a Friday before Sravana Poornima. Varalakshmi grants boons (Varam). It is mostly performed by women all over India. Sri Vara Maha Lakshmi Vratam is performed by married women for the wellbeing of all the family members, especially the husband, to get progeny, etc.
It is believed that worshipping Goddess Vara Lakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi.

Charumathi Devi Story (Vrata Kadha): In the kingdom of Magadha, a Brahmin woman called Charumathi lived in a town named Kundina. The prosperous town was the home of Charumathi and her husband. Impressed by her devotion to her family, Goddess Maha Lakshmi appeared in her dream and asked her to worship her in the form of Vara Lakshmi (Vara means boon, Lakshmi- goddess of wealth) and seek to fulfill her wishes. Charumathi explained her dream to her family, and along with many other women, she performed the pooja in a traditional way and prayed to Goddess Varalakshmi with deep devotion.

“Padmaasane Padmakare sarva lokaika poojithe ; Narayana priyae devi supreethaa bhava sarvada”

Sumangali (Married women) worship Goddess Lakshmi with utmost devotion offering sweets and flowers. Kalash (representing the deity)is invoked and decorated with a saree, flowers, and gold jewelry with offerings placed in front. It is a tradition to buy gold on this day. This pooja can be done with no restriction to caste or creed. To this day many women observe this traditional festival praying Vara Mahalakshmi for her blessings in the form of wealth and well-being of their family.

In our Temple every year we perform Varalakshmi Vratam with all our devotees, Praying for their well-being and prosperity.
